A lot of people have never rented a dumpster before the moment they actually need one. Maybe you are knee-deep in a kitchen renovation, clearing out a property between tenants, or finally tackling that garage that has been collecting junk for a decade. Whatever the situation, the last thing you want is to figure out the logistics on the fly while debris is already piling up.
The good news is that dumpster rental is one of the more straightforward services we offer. Once you understand how the process works, most of the stress disappears. Here is exactly what to expect when you rent a dumpster through TCC from the first call to the final pickup.
Step 1: We Gather the Details
When you reach out to us, the first thing we do is collect basic information to set up your rental correctly. This includes:
- Your name
- Contact number
- Service address
- The type of project you are working on
- When you need the dumpster
- Roughly how long you will need it
- Whether this is for a residential or commercial job
This step matters more than most people realize. Knowing the scope and timeline of your project upfront helps us recommend the right size, schedule drop-off and pickup efficiently, and make sure there are no surprises on either end.
Step 2: Pick Your Size
We offer two dumpster sizes: an 18-yard and a 30-yard. Both are available for residential and commercial projects, and once we understand what you are working on, we will help you decide which one makes the most sense.
The 18-yard is a solid fit for most residential jobs, such as garage cleanouts, bathroom or kitchen renovations, deck removal, and general home improvement debris. The 30-yard steps up the capacity for larger projects like whole-house cleanouts, major renovations, contractor job sites, and commercial or property management work.
The most common mistake we see is customers choosing the smaller size to save a little money, only to run out of room halfway through the job. A second delivery costs more time and money than simply sizing up from the start. When in doubt, we will always tell you honestly which size best fits your situation.
Step 3: We Schedule Drop-Off and Pickup
Once we have your details and you have picked your size, we lock in your drop-off date. Drop-off is scheduled for a specific date, and we can generally aim for a morning or afternoon window, though we do not guarantee an exact arrival time.
At booking, you also schedule a planned pickup date. If your project wraps up sooner or runs a little longer than expected, just contact us between your drop-off and pickup dates, and we can adjust. We know projects do not always go exactly according to plan, and we work with you to make it right.
The day before your scheduled pickup, we will call or text you if we do not hear back from you to confirm you are ready for the dumpster to be picked up. This small step saves everyone from a wasted trip and keeps things running smoothly.
Step 4: Payment
For new residential and commercial customers, we collect payment after scheduling and before drop-off. We take a card on file, and your rental documents, which outline all the rules, processes, and expectations, are sent to you automatically so everything is clear before the dumpster arrives.
If you prefer to pay with cash or check, that is also an option. Payment must be made at the time of drop-off, and the customer must be present when the dumpster is delivered.
For commercial customers who have worked with us before, we handle things a little differently. As long as we have your company name, billing address, and email on file, we send an invoice instead of collecting payment upfront. New commercial customers follow the same process as residential to get started.
Step 5: Fill It Up, Then We Haul It Away
Once the dumpster is on site, the work is yours. Load debris at your own pace and use the container however the project calls for.
A couple of things to keep in mind as you fill: do not load above the top rim of the container, as overfilled dumpsters cannot be legally transported. Also be aware that certain items can trigger additional fees, including hazardous materials, concrete, and anything that causes damage or violates the rental rules. We go over all of this in the documentation you receive at the time of booking, so there are no surprises.
When you are ready for pickup, we come out and haul everything away. You do not have to make a single trip to a landfill or sort anything out on your end.
